Dearest Millennial, from a Millennial

Posted July 22, 2017 by

When INSIDE8 was launched, we had you – us – in mind. Being a millennial means being part of a groundbreaking, dynamic and exciting generation that’s riding the rapid waves of societal change. We have learned to quickly adjust as technology advances and opportunities and responsibilities pile up. With these challenges and no post-millennial guidance, we have to figure it out on our own. The result is numbness and a sense of being overwhelmed–while also being seen as ungrateful and entitled by those we look up to in life and report to at work.

With our lives seemingly balanced one day and then the next feeling as if it all can shatter to a trillion tiny pieces in a millisecond, it is safe to say that our true instincts and desires have become muted. It is difficult to hear our inner voice with the constant noise around us. We can be in ‘fight or flight’ mode for weeks at a time and not even realize it–until we take a conscious or unconscious pause. The pause can occur at any time: during a yoga class, on our walk home or while talking to a friend on the phone. And then we begin to wonder why.

  • Why have I not found love?
  • Why do I constantly feel awful after/during/before work?
  • Why do I not feel fulfilled given everything and every opportunity that I have?
  • Why am I not happy?
  • Where are my friends?
  • Why is it seemingly never enough?

Those days of wondering ‘why’ certainly don’t make us feel our best; however they can become fantastic days of growth. We millennials need to be warriors. We need to bravely stand strong against the label of entitlement, and the feelings of being overloaded and overwhelmed. To do this, we must make a conscious effort to hear our inner voice. Can those down days become our best days? Yes—if we consider them as reminders that we need to take a pause and get reacquainted with our inner voice.

Reconnect

Take the Inside8 test and uncover your top four to five motivations. Unlock a world of information about what makes you thrive.

  • Why have I not found love? Who is your best match? What values do you share? How are you compatible? In what ways do you conflict? How can you best navigate those conflicts to strengthen the relationship?
  • Why do I constantly feel awful after/during/before work? Are you in the right job or on the right career path? Do you feel motivated and excited about what your’re doing, or is it just a paycheck? What do you really want to accomplish with your life?
  • Why do I not feel fulfilled given everything and every opportunity that I have? Are you pursuing the right opportunities—the ones that satisfy your specific motivational drives?
  • Why am I not happy? What does happy mean to me?
  • Where are my friends? Who am I and who do I want in my life? Do we help each other feel more fulfilled? What do I do in my downtime to connect with others and how can I better relate to them?
  • Why is it seemingly never enough? What is enough to me?

Knowing your ‘why’ can help reshape, strengthen or even pave the path of your beautiful journey forward in a more fulfilling way. The wonders of your ‘why’s’ will begin to be answered.

With love,

A fellow warrior millennial
